Make your own ornaments. They can be passed down to your kids and your kids kids. Also add fake snow, it always makes a tree look its best. Use a strand of white lights and a few strands of color lights and plenty of garland.

Our tree has clear lights with gold and burgundy decorations such as beads and ribbon instead of garland, little velvet bows, and some big burgundy poinsettias. I always use some fake snow too, since we have a fake tree, definitely gives it a little more of that real look. 🙂
