Any ideas for Christmas dinner?
Dec 19th, 2009 by admin
We are having the traditional lunch at my in-laws so I want something different for dinner. Any ideas? Thanks!
I am only cooking for my husband and 2 kids for dinner. We are doing the family thing on Christmas Eve and Christmas morning. We just want something different for dinner. I am not afraid to attempt something new.

My family tradition (before my grandma got old) was Beef Stroganoff, mashed potatoes w/gravy, green bean casserole, jello, dinner rolls and dessert was cookies.
I loved this! It was not fancy but it was delicious!

What is your traditional lunch at your in-laws, turkey, roast, ham? Make the opposite.
I am having the following, a consideration for you as well:
Pork roast with mushroom gravy
boiled potatoes with garlic and rosemary
broccoli/cauliflower in a light white cheddar sauce
orzo pasta salad
chocolate cream pie
pumpkin cheesecake

My advice would be to never try a new recipe for the first time on a big day like Christmas dinner. Even if you are a experienced cook!
So if you want to do something other than the normal, do you favorite casserole. Stick to what you know!

I have the perfect thing. This is no exact recipe, but you can find them for the following to prepare them to your liking.
-prime rib roast
-red potatoes peeled on one side (for appearance of elegance and for taste) either mashed or wedged, then put basil on them and bake them
-baked stuffed shrimp
-salad with pears and a yogurt sauce unless you like vegetables
-home made bread
-red wine for adults, fruit punch or sherbert for kids
-creamed corn NOT on the cob
I always have all of the above, I help my mom but she makes it, and everyone leaves full, satisfied, and very complementing on their favorite part: the prime rib roast, and baked stuffed shrimp
