Some inexpensive christmas decorating ideas???
Dec 22nd, 2009 by admin
This will be my first christmas in my own place and I can decorate it completely by myself, but with my own place comes a very tight budget, what are some ideas for decorating (tree, outside, dining room etc….)
Okay, easy. Go find a cedar tree in the woods, easily done by driving into the country, also gather pine cones, cut pine from tree, cut some holly from a bush and cut some magnolia if possible. Use all this throughout your house with only buying some ribbon to make boews. String popcorn and cranberries for your tree plus go to local pre-schools and ask children to make you some decorations for you tree. Cheap, elegant and simple.

My wife and I went through the same thing 2 years ago -we went without a tree since it requires so many extras. We did put up a few home made bows, we made our own stockings and waited until the late season sales started to pick up some things on the cheap.

Go to the dollar tree or dollar store and they have lots of cheap stuff for decorating.

I like to bring the outside in. Use branches and leaves off of native plants here (like holly, boxwood, magnolia, bay) to make wreaths and swags by tying together. Be careful not to infringe on neighbors or areas prohibited. Also, there are plenty of pinecones around to fill baskets, spray paint and glue beads on to be made to look like little christmas trees. Natural is always homier and comforting compared to the shiny tinseling on the market! Have fun.

Congratulations on your place! This idea for a wreath comes from when I had my first son, and pretty much my first place that wasn’t just a room somewhere. Materials needed are a wire coat hangar, some garbage bags, scissors, glue, any scrap fabric in xmasy colours. Start by rounding out the hangar so that you have an ‘O’ with a hook at the top. Then cut the garbage bags into strips, lots of them. You’re going to tie the strips to the hangar to make the basic wreath. It takes a while, but you can do it in front of the TV, lol. Make a fabric bow to tie around the hook at the top and decorate with anything you have on hand. Sprinkles, popcorn etc. I was so broke at the time, I had nothing, but I found one of those styrofoam craft balls. I grated it, drizzled glue onto the wreath and poured the grated foam onto it to make it look snowed on! Good Luck.

Your best bet is to do your christmas decoration shopping after christmas when everything is 75% off. I do this every year for every holiday. That way my upcoming years get better and better. As for now, buy a small table-top tree for this year. Shop at the dollar store and pick up some nick-nacks that you can cover your TV stand, coffee tables. String up lights around your living/dining room and maybe a few outside. Buy some window "snow" and deck out your windows.

Funny that you ask today, here i am busy at work contemplating the same thing. I have found a ton of great ideas. for example, my husband and i love those little villages, but i cant go spending the money on a whole one this year so i decided to make a "candy village" using gram-cracker houses and candy people, and to light it up i will be putting battery operated lights inside the buildings. plus that give me and my husband some bonding time, you can make a faux fire place, they are really cute. i found a really cool 3-D one on the web they made from boxes, it was cute. you can also just make one my painting paper bags too.. that is what my roommate and i did when we were in school. as far as a tree goes, just go some place and cut down a small one or ask family and friends if they have one that you can use. i got a 7′ one from my granny because it was getting to big for her to decorate. i hate spending money and so one big thing that really can stretch your budget is if you do buy things, at any time of year make sure that you can use them for more that one season, and use them in other ways. that tip all one will save you money. i found this website for you to look at, i get their mags, they are great… http://familyfun.go.com/arts-and-crafts/season/ ……
Always remember just because its created at home it does not have to look "cheep" even when you do not pay a dime for any materials.
